Please note that, although not published, it has now come to light that the "20 day grace period" after your car licence was due, no longer applies since 1st of March 2011. You will now be levied a R7 penalty PER DAY for every day that you exceed your renewal date. Please watch your renewal notice when received to see if you are granted a grace period or not.

This hoax have been officially refuted by the South African Department of Transport: Transport department statement on e-mail about motor vehicle licensing

The only benefit arising from this e-mail is that the Department of Transport will receive license renewal fees a bit earlier than normal, so one comes to wonder who exactly would benefit from spreading false statements like these? No one really, it just that some people like to cause widespread panic and confusion.

Don't forward an e-mail that contains claims without authentic proof.
